What is AMI in water metering?
Advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) is a fixed network of meters, communication modules and gateways that sends reads to the utility automatically, usually several times a day, without a reader visiting the site. AMR (automatic meter reading) collects reads with walk-by or drive-by equipment instead.
Which communication technologies do Data Drop devices use?
NB-IoT and LTE Cat-M over licensed 4G and 5G networks (Mac-IQ), SensusRF and wireless M-Bus/OMS radio at 433, 868 and 169 MHz (Echo Rep, SensusRF Gateway, Hydropulsar and WDCR), with 4G, GPRS and Ethernet backhaul from gateways.
Can I add AMI to the mechanical meters I already have?
Yes. Mac-IQ and Hydropulsar use inductive sensors that read the register of an existing mechanical meter, so no pulse output is required. Mac-IQ suits meters from Elster, Itron, Sensus, Diehl and Maddalena; Hydropulsar is designed for Sensus meters.
How long do the device batteries last?
Mac-IQ and Echo Rep are rated for a 10-year battery life, and the SensusRF Gateway runs on 240 V mains power. All are IP68 rated for pit and outdoor installation.
Do we have to change our head-end platform?
No. Data Drop is technology-agnostic: its devices can feed an existing head-end platform, and Aura can also take data from digital meters and modules you have already installed.
